The International Outreach Ministry

In 2003, the International Outreach Ministry (formerly the Uganda Committee) was formed following the first of several visits to this African country by several groups of St. James parishioners. The initial goal of this group was to create and support a relationship between our community and the Christians of the Buseesa parish. This support takes the form of prayer, purchase, volunteerism and pilgrimage. Between three trips, nine parishioners, including Fr. Alan Wakefield, have traveled to Africa to build a relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. To date we have contributed thousands of dollars for medical supplies, school building supplies, electricity for the church, student sponsorship, and the building of a corn mill to help our sister community generate income. We have expanded our support beyond Uganda and are also helping communities in Mexico, Honduras and the Fiji Islands.

The International Outreach Ministry has successfully sponsored annual apple pie sales made possible with the help of many parish volunteers to make and have sold over 1750 pies. We raise money by hosting Texas Hold’em Tournaments. Scheduled events pertaining to our ministry are announced in the bulletin at Masses.
