The process for marriage preparation is a well designed and fruitful experience here in the Diocese of Lansing, which generally take 9-12 months to complete.
The process begins with an initial meeting with the priest. This meeting is followed by working through the following requirements:
- FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding and Study) is a self diagnostic instrument designed to help couples learn more about themselves and their unique relationship.
- Communications skills seminar called "We Care" is a 2 day seminar teaching couples positive communication and conflict management skills.
- Catholic Information Series, a 4 week series on the Catholic Faith and how you are called to live out your marriage covenant.
- Course in Natural Family Planning (NFP), a highly effective scientific method of planning your family, both for achieving and postponing pregnancy.
Optional elements in the process may include Engaged Encounter or Remarriage Seminar, depending on individual circumstances.
