St. James is committed to welcoming parents and assisting them in their role as the primary educators of their children. In response to this commitment, St. James offers a baptismal process for parents and godparents that explains the Sacrament of baptism and their role in raising their child Catholic.
To begin the process call the parish office, 517-676-9111. When considering baptizing your child into the Roman Catholic Church, it is presumed that you, as parents, are currently actively participating in the Catholic Faith as practicing registered members of St. James Parish. You must attend a Baptism Prep class. These are held once a month on a Saturday morning. To sign up for a class, please contact Deacon Al Turkovich. Click here for a Baptism registration form form.
Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism can take place at any of the Masses (performed by Fr. Kusi) or after Mass (performed by a Deacon).Baptisms are typically not celebrated during Lent except in special circumstances.
If the Godparents are not participating, registered members of St. James, verification must be received from the parish in which they are participating and registered. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Those 18 or older should be registered in their own name (not with parents.) This verification must be received BEFORE baptism can be scheduled. Click here to see the requirements for Godparents.
